There are many neighbors that surround us in our secluded neighborhood
in Milwaukee. Whether they are gay or straight is irrelevant.
The only way that this is known is when they announce the fact
or they act as an obvious couple. Even then, this does not make
a difference to my family or a difference that I know of to the
other neighbors.
A few years ago, a neighbor across the street (was openly gay)
saw us and told us of how his partner of over 20 years was dying...
Time went on and his beloved passed away. Such a tragedy to
die at such a young age. But I ask you. . . what is the difference
that a straight couple feels when the one they love passes away
in comparison to a gay couple? My answer is simple. Absolutely
nothing. Love
is love. It doesn't matter if it is straight, gay, lesbian or
what have you, it's all about love and the emotions, commitment
and open communication that it takes to have a healthy relationship.
