There is so much controversy over "Gay Marriage" that I simply don't understand. I don't understand why it has to be an issue at all? Why does who you, or anyone else chose to love affect my marriage in any negative way? Why shouldn't the men and women I know, who have been together longer than my husband and I, have the same rights and benefits that we do? Why do we as a couple deserve protection under the law, but "Bill and Ben" or "Chris and Kate" don't?

I just don't understand. Could someone explain it to me?
