Thor:

Love, family and commitment are common values we all have, gay or straight. This campaign gives us a way to emphasize our common values.

Cream City Foundation's Gay Neighbor Billboard Media Campaign provides us an opportunity to illustrate healthy, stable, and family-oriented LGBT families. These billboards are an important way for our child to identify and appreciate the diversity that exists within her family structure. Families of choice are as happy and successful as families of origin. Wisconsin does not allow same-sex couples to adopt children as a couple, nor to adopt one another's children. While the State recognized us both as foster parents, only one is legally recognized as an adoptive parent. Imagine if a straight couple had a baby and the first thing the doctor asked was "OK, which one of you wants to be the parent?" Laws that do not allow us to jointly adopt inhibit our legal ability to become a cohesive family; however, we know in our hearts that no law can break the love and support that we have for one another.

We also want to bring attention to the fact that children who have same-sex parents may be forced into the fostercare system if their one legal parent dies. Ripping the child away from their remaining parent would be tragic for the child.

We are both proud parents, and although Marc and I are no longer together, the love we share for OUR daughter remains, and always will remain, unchanged as we co-parent Lily.
