This hetero ... totally understands in every way
the LGBT frustration with lack of fairness and rights. I do not
take offense at all to hearing the anger and frustration from
my gay friends and neighbors. Individual rights are so important.
The only regulations from our government should be for individual
rights ... everyone should have them.
When I held my best friend's hand as he was dying
and his partner was out of his mind with grief, (they were together
for 32 yrs) I was so pissed at the Gods. When his partner's family
came in after he died ... they claimed the right to everything
the two of them worked for their entire lives. Thankfully ...
they had made special legal provisions and under common law the
surviving partner was able to keep what they had built together.
He was lucky he had some legal protections in place.
Mind you this was a family that disowned their
dying son and hadn't seen him for 20 years but wanted to come
in and take his wealth. Witnessing stuff like this makes me feel
so sick. The spouse he left behind was lucky he wasn't taken
advantage of. Most gay and transgender couples like this are not
so lucky.
And, it just makes me cry! It will take time, evolution
and all of us to stick together to get this battle won. We can
do it! We are one! I so love you all!
