Describe Your status:
Single

I'm lucky to live in a very gay-friendly area -- my neighbors tend to have positive or neutral reactions when I come out to them. The most negative I've had to deal with is a few men who acted like they wanted to become friends with me, then sexually propositioned me despite knowing full well that I am a lesbian. On the whole, I consider myself very fortunate in my immediate community. I am also part of a queer-affirming church (the Religious Society of Friends, unprogrammed branch) and have been incredibly supported by my friends there.

The thing that makes me saddest about living where I do is that I know that despite the friendly atmosphere, about 1/4 of my neighbors -- that is, people in my county -- voted for Proposition 8, the state same-sex marriage ban. I don't know who these people are or why they made that decision, just that it hurt me deeply. I wish I could talk to those neighbors, but I know I'll never find most of them. I'm also worried about what will happen when I move away, as I ultimately must, because I haven't had to deal with a hostile environment before and am probably ill-prepared to do so.
