I am a straight person. As a straight citizen of this 'land of the free, home of the brave' it honestly baffles me why some citizens can not be afforded fair rights.

It Makes NO Sense.

If we have a separation of church and state, why is this a political issue?

I'm scared for my gay friends who might be prevented rightful custody of their children or be denied their medical power of attorney during crisis (as was the recent case in Florida.) This is simply ridiculous. I mean, I'm running out of ways to phrase the argument because my argument simply is "c'mon, it makes sense."

Legal gay discrimination goes against our pledge that all people are equal, against our commitment to separate church and state and, quite simply, goes against LOGIC and basic human compassion.

I look forward to the day in which my children will ask 'so, gays and lesbians were really treated differently?' with the same disbelief in their voice as was in mine when I remarked 'so, there were segregated schools and bathrooms and drinking fountains?'

This is a revolting period in our nation's history and the sooner we end it and treat each other with respect and dignity, the stronger we become as a nation. Perhaps, then, we can finally earn the title "Land of the Free, Home of the Brave."
